More about Zika

Zika is a very sweet, affectionate boy who absolutely thrives on human attention.

He can be sensitive to his surroundings and movement, particularly hands. He likes time to process and get used to you, so would not appreciate a direct approach to make contact straight away. He will initially want to come to you when he is confident, and know he can move away if he wants to.

Whilst he will engage with other dogs, he would prefer a home on his own. The interactions with dogs are on his terms, and he would not appreciate dogs in his face, or a long period of time around dogs.

We feel that a quiet home with a garden, with preferably one person would suit Zika best.
Due to Zika sometimes needing that space for himself, a small home would not be suitable because he could accidentally feel cornered.

When Zika realises you are ok and he can trust you, he is a really loving boy. He likes nothing more than cuddles, to sit on your lap, being stroked and can be touched anywhere. He also loves doing some training for treats, and is very eager to learn.

He likes slow quiet movement, particularly around doorways and can easily become overwhelmed and trigger stack. This is not always obvious because he can be quiet and look calm at the time. We just need to be aware, he is insecure and uncertain so being gentle and reassuring will help him.

Zika can display resource guarding behaviour particularly around food, but this can stem from insecurity. This can be easily managed by leaving Zika alone whilst he eats.

Whilst Zika will enjoy walks, they will not need to be very long for quite a while as he can feel overwhelmed with lots of traffic, noise and activity. So this will need to be built up very slowly. Zika will not mind this, he will be more interested in relaxing in the home and building up that bond with you.

Zika will require an adult only home with very few visitors and no visiting children.

Adoption fee: £250

About our dogs

Our dogs are microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, flea & wormed and have full travel documents where appropriate. If they are arriving from overseas they will have had all the pre-travel tests as required by DEFRA and are transported through the TRACES system.

We pride ourselves on being honest and open about our dogs, sharing all we know about them including any known behaviour challenges or medical conditions.

Like all responsible rescues we offer Lifetime Rescue Back Up to all the dogs who come through our doors.

One month trial

We want our dogs to be happy in their homes for life, which is why we offer a full one month trial. As they start to relax and their personalities shine through you’ll know if your home life suits and how they get along with any other pets.

If it’s not the right fit, they can come back to rescue and get straight back to playing, and we will try to find you a more suitable match. There aren’t enough homes out there so please don’t give up if your first dog doesn’t work out.
Please let us know which dog you're interested in adopting. Have a question for us? Ask away.
