Tyson is a young, strong and incredibly loving boy who is looking for an active home where he can continue learning, exploring and developing into the wonderful dog we know he can be.
When Tyson first arrived in foster, he was extremely excited and a little unruly, but with some routine and consistency he has settled beautifully. He is now very happy in his foster home and has shown what a sweet and affectionate dog he really is. He loves being close to his person and is very much a ‘Velcro dog’ who enjoys plenty of attention, cuddles and, of course, a good tummy rub!
Tyson is a big softie at heart, although he is still very much a puppy in a teenager’s body. He has lots of energy and will need an active family who can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment and ongoing training. His foster carer found that shorter walks weren’t quite enough for him, and he currently enjoys a long daily walk where he can explore and burn off some of his energy. He would suit someone who enjoys being outdoors and is looking for a dog to join them on adventures.
Tyson has been doing really well on his walks. He is generally good on the lead and can walk nicely on a loose lead, particularly when out in busier areas such as the local town centre. He can pull when something particularly exciting catches his attention, such as squirrels, cats or other dogs, so some continued lead training would be beneficial.
He has been excellent when meeting other dogs. He is friendly and, even when another dog has barked or growled at him, he has remained calm and carried on without reacting. He doesn’t have perfect doggy manners just yet, so he will benefit from continued guidance and positive social experiences. He could live with a compatible dog but no cats or small furries.
Tyson absolutely loves people and happily welcomes attention from strangers. He has been taken into a reasonably busy town centre and behaved beautifully around the hustle and bustle. He has also travelled in the car well, although he can take a few minutes to settle before relaxing.
Tyson has settled very well in foster and has had no problems being left alone, with no signs of separation anxiety. He is generally very well behaved with visitors. He may give a couple of barks when someone arrives but quickly wants to investigate and say hello.
Tyson is affectionate and enjoys being close to his person. He sleeps through the night and is happy to settle down once he has had enough exercise and stimulation.
Tyson is still learning his basic manners and will need an adopter who is willing to continue his training. He can become overexcited, and when he has too much energy or becomes bored, this can sometimes result in mouthing or humping behaviours. These have reduced significantly since he has settled into a routine with his foster carer and has had appropriate outlets for his energy.
He can also be quite enthusiastic with toys and doesn’t always want to hand them back! There is no aggression around toys, but he will need continued work on his ‘drop’ and ‘leave’ commands.
Something important for any potential adopter to be aware of is that Tyson is an extremely enthusiastic eater and has a tendency to chew and swallow things that aren’t food. He has managed to destroy toys, including strong rubber toys, and will also investigate anything he can reach around the home. Outside, he will try to eat plants and food he finds on the ground.
Because of this, Tyson will need a home that is able to manage his environment carefully, keep unsuitable items out of reach and continue working on his ‘leave it’ and impulse-control training. His adopter will need to be particularly mindful of what he has access to, both inside and outside the home.
Tyson is looking for an active and committed family who understands that he is still learning and has lots of growing up to do. He needs someone who can provide plenty of physical exercise, mental stimulation, structure and positive training.
He is a strong dog, so his adopter will need to be confident handling him, particularly when he sees something exciting on walks.
We don’t yet know how Tyson is around young children, as he hasn’t met any during his time in foster, so we are looking for a home with older teens.
Tyson really is a diamond. He may currently be a little bouncy and unruly, but underneath all that energy is an incredibly sweet, affectionate and gentle dog who simply needs the right person to help him learn how to be the best version of himself.
