After spending several months in foster care building her confidence, Sandy is finally ready to find a family of her very own. Watching her grow has been incredibly rewarding, and while she will need a patient and understanding home, the progress she has made shows just how much potential she has.
Sandy is a gentle, affectionate girl who absolutely loves being close to her people. Once she trusts you, you’ll often find her curled up on the sofa beside you, happily snoozing or leaning in for a fuss. She’s also fantastic with visitors, provided they’re introduced calmly, and has happily settled down next to guests for a cuddle and a nap.
She enjoys her walks much more now and has made fantastic progress with other dogs. While her training is still ongoing, she is becoming increasingly confident when passing or meeting dogs out and about, and she’s much calmer and more relaxed than when she first arrived in foster care. She would be best suited to being the only dog in the home, she cannot live with cats.
Sandy is fully toilet trained and is happy to be left alone for a few hours. She also loves enrichment games, especially anything that involves using her incredible nose, which is a wonderful way to keep her mind occupied.
Like many dogs who have had a difficult start in life, Sandy still finds some things worrying. Busy environments and fast-moving triggers such as young children, bikes, scooters and joggers can make her feel overwhelmed, so she is looking for a quieter lifestyle with adopters who have experience of nervous dogs and are committed to continuing her positive training. She can also be sensitive to loud noises, including building work, shouting, loud vehicles and fireworks, so she needs a home that understands how to help her feel safe and secure during these moments.
Sandy will need a home with a secure garden where she can relax and explore safely.
For someone willing to give her the time, patience and understanding she deserves, Sandy will be an incredibly rewarding companion. Beneath her worries is a loving, loyal dog who has already come such a long way. She has all the foundations in place and is now searching for the family who will continue her journey and show her just how wonderful life can be. We have no doubt that once Sandy lets you into her heart, she’ll steal yours too.
