Rico is a shy, sensitive boy who can be worried by people and is not yet confident being touched or handled. He is hand shy and needs time and patience to build trust, but he is making steady progress in his rehabilitation. The next step on his journey would be a foster or trial home where he can begin learning what life in a home environment is like.
The good news is that Rico is ruled by his tummy and absolutely loves food, which makes it a brilliant tool for building a bond and supporting his ongoing training. He is a clever boy who picks things up quickly when allowed to progress at his own pace.
Rico is not yet ready to walk confidently on the lead, and our team believes he may have some past trauma around being restrained. This will need to be introduced slowly and carefully, but he has already shown great potential.
He mixes well with other dogs and would benefit from living with at least one confident canine companion to help show him the ropes. Rico has also shown potential to live with cats, although this would need to be managed carefully.
Rico is cheeky, full of character, and can jump high or climb, so a very secure garden is essential. He will need a quiet, experienced home that can continue his rehabilitation, with older, sensible children aged 16+.
Helping a dog like Rico will take time, patience, and understanding, but it will be an incredibly rewarding experience for the right home.
