Raine is a dainty little girl who has come a long way since arriving with us. When she first came into rescue, she was extremely nervous and fearful. She was very skittish, avoided human interaction and found being touched very difficult. With patience, consistency and lots of positive experiences, her confidence has grown significantly.
Although Raine has made fantastic progress, she is still a sensitive, shy girl who can be nervous and easily overwhelmed, particularly when faced with new people, unfamiliar situations or experiences she isn’t used to. She therefore needs a sensible, patient and experienced home that understands nervous dogs and will allow her confidence to continue developing at her own pace.
Raine now enjoys going out for walks and is much more comfortable than she was when she first arrived. She is doing really well with her walking and is beginning to relax much more when out and about. She can still be wary of unfamiliar people and may freeze or want to move away if someone approaches her. We have been working on helping her calmly watch people pass by without feeling overwhelmed, and she is making lovely little improvements.
Raine can also be unsure around unknown dogs when out on walks. She has been working hard on this and is becoming more confident, but she benefits from a calm and encouraging handler who can help her move on when she feels worried. With dogs she knows and trusts, Raine can take confidence from them and they help her to feel safe, so we are looking for a home where she has at least one other confident, friendly dog to learn from. She does prefer female dogs so a female companion would suit her best.
Raine takes a little time to warm up to people, but once she feels safe and comfortable, her lovely personality really starts to shine. She enjoys belly rubs and bum scratches and, when relaxed, loves playing with soft toys. She is also a real foodie, which is a great help when building positive associations and continuing her confidence work.
Despite her nervous nature, Raine is quite a chilled little dog and isn’t looking for an overly active lifestyle. She would be very happy with a gentle stroll, a little playtime and then a cosy spot where she can happily nap for hours.
Raine will need a patient and understanding home that is prepared to continue building her confidence and allow her to progress at her own pace. Her new family will need to be comfortable recognising when she is feeling worried and giving her the support and space she needs rather than placing her in situations that are too much for her. This isn’t a dog who will be suited to a busy or unpredictable household, and an experienced approach will be important in helping her settle and thrive.
A secure garden is essential, as is at least one other suitable dog in the home who can provide Raine with confidence and companionship.
For the right person, Raine has the potential to become a wonderful companion. She has already shown us just how much she can blossom when given patience, kindness and the opportunity to feel safe, and we would love to find her a home where she can continue that journey.
