Harlow is a quiet and sensitive girl, though she is growing in confidence every day. Having spent most of her life in a family home, she is used to the comforts of home life and is generally very relaxed, settled and well-mannered in the house. She is now enjoying life in foster care, where her confidence is gradually blossoming as she adjusts to life without her family.
Although Harlow has previously lived happily with children, she would benefit from a quiet home and a slower pace of life. She could live with older, sensible children aged 10+.
Harlow really enjoys her walks and is a lovely companion to have out and about. She particularly enjoys early morning walks when things are quieter, but is also happy to explore local parks and venture further afield at weekends. She loves taking in all the different sights and smells, often stopping to sniff the air and enjoy her surroundings. She walks nicely on the lead and would love a family who can continue to give her plenty of opportunities to explore.
Harlow can be nervous around other dogs, particularly those approaching her directly or larger dogs, though she is not reactive. She may become worried and will stand close to you for reassurance. She generally prefers smaller dogs and can happily walk alongside dogs once properly introduced. She is much happier when given space and allowed to observe other dogs without any pressure to interact. She may be able to live with a calm, compatible dog.
She’s previously been around cats and showed playful curiosity rather than any aggression, although this was some time ago, so any introductions would need to be managed carefully.
Harlow is a gentle soul and takes a little time to build trust with new people. She can be unsure of visitors initially, and prefers to approach in her own time, she’ll have a good sniff and gradually become more comfortable. Her fosterer has already seen lovely progress, with Harlow now accepting gentle strokes. She’s not one to demand cuddles and fuss, preferring a gentle stroke and a little personal space, but watching her confidence grow is incredibly rewarding.
At home, Harlow is house-trained and will let you know when she needs to go outside. She’s quite used to having access to a garden and generally prefers to do her toileting there, so a home with a garden is important for her. She can be left alone for several hours, although she may bark for a short while when you first leave. She’s not known to be destructive.
Harlow is accustomed to travelling in the car and is happy on shorter journeys. She can become a little vocal on longer trips, but having a window open so she can enjoy the smells seems to help.
Harlow is looking for a patient, understanding home with a secure garden and someone who will allow her the time and space to settle and build trust. She is a sensitive girl who needs a little reassurance, but her growing confidence is lovely to see, and we’re sure that with the right person by her side, she’ll continue to blossom.
