Elsie - Dogs 4 Rescue

Elsie

More about Elsie

Elsie is a pint-sized little poppet with a big personality! She has more of a typical Frenchie temperament — full of character, funny, affectionate and full of charm. She recently spent some time in foster care and did incredibly well, settling into home life beautifully and showing what a wonderful little companion she can be.

Elsie is a very well-mannered dog in the home. She was 100% clean during her foster stay, toileting outside on walks and in the garden, and making it clear when she needed to go out. She settled quickly into the routine, happily relaxing on her bed with her toys, and was content to spend time independently or enjoy attention from her foster carer. She was polite with food and treats, taking them gently and waiting for instruction, and she was responsive and eager to please. She enjoyed playing with toys, loved cuddles and belly rubs, but was also happy doing her own thing.

Elsie enjoys her walks and is fantastic on the lead, walking beautifully without pulling. She generally prefers to keep her distance from people and other dogs when out and about, but she has shown she can socialise well with the right introductions. She has met a variety of dogs and has mostly ignored them or had a polite sniff before moving on. She has previously lived with other dogs and can enjoy their company so could live with a compatible dog. She has not yet been cat tested.

Elsie is a nervous girl and will need an experienced home that understands her communication and can help her feel safe. She can be worried by unfamiliar people, particularly if they approach too quickly or enter her space, and she may bark, growl or react defensively when she feels uncomfortable. During her foster stay, she was tested with visitors and initially barked when someone arrived, but with calm handling and time she settled, approached them herself, accepted treats and allowed fuss. She does need people to respect her boundaries and not force interactions before she is ready.

Because Elsie can be defensive when frightened, she would not be suitable to live with children and will need a home where her environment can be managed carefully. She has previously given a warning bite when feeling overwhelmed, so her adopters must understand that this comes from fear and be committed to continuing her training and confidence building.

Despite her challenges, Elsie is a lovely little dog who has so much to offer. She travels well in the car, enjoys exploring, settled beautifully into her foster home and showed no concerns around everyday household noises such as the hoover, mop or outside sounds. She loves her people, enjoys affection and has a wonderfully cheeky personality. With patient, understanding owners who can advocate for her, Elsie will make a fantastic companion.

About our dogs

Our dogs are microchipped, vaccinated, neutered, flea & wormed and have full travel documents where appropriate. If they are arriving from overseas they will have had all the pre-travel tests as required by DEFRA and are transported through the TRACES system.

We pride ourselves on being honest and open about our dogs, sharing all we know about them including any known behaviour challenges or medical conditions.

Like all responsible rescues we offer Lifetime Rescue Back Up to all the dogs who come through our doors.

One month trial

We want our dogs to be happy in their homes for life, which is why we offer a full one month trial. As they start to relax and their personalities shine through you’ll know if your home life suits and how they get along with any other pets.

If it’s not the right fit, they can come back to rescue and get straight back to playing, and we will try to find you a more suitable match. There aren’t enough homes out there so please don’t give up if your first dog doesn’t work out.
