Mary is our newest handican, and what an amazing little lady she is! Her disability really doesn’t hold her back, and after everything she has been through, seeing how far she has come is nothing short of incredible.
When Mary was rescued, she had suffered significant trauma, most likely after being hit by a car. She arrived in poor condition with painful wounds to her hind legs. X-rays revealed a complete fracture of the seventh lumbar vertebra, along with osteoarthritic changes in both hips. She also had no control over her bladder or bowel movements and was extremely weak.
After months of ongoing medical treatment, physical therapy and hydrotherapy, Mary has made an incredible transformation. She is now happy, active and able to move around and enjoy life like any other dog.
Mary is unable to empty her bladder independently, so she will need her bladder manually expressed multiple times a day. Our team will provide full guidance and show her adopters exactly how to do this. Although she has some control over her bowels, she also needs assistance to ensure she is fully emptied, as she is prone to intestinal blockages. For this reason, Mary needs a committed and understanding home that is physically able and comfortable to manage her ongoing care.
Despite everything she has been through, Mary is a wonderfully happy, friendly and playful girl. She is incredibly sweet-natured and has already completely stolen all of our hearts. She loves life and doesn’t let her disability get in the way of having fun.
Mary is sociable with other dogs and could potentially live with a compatible canine companion in her new home. She has not yet been cat tested.
Mary is a truly special girl who has overcome so much. She now deserves a wonderful home where her adopters will see her abilities rather than her disability and help her continue enjoying the happy, active life she has worked so hard to get back.
