Lord Zachariah the Forgetful: A tribute to our precious Grandad Zach

To know Zach is to love Zach. The grandad of the rescue, he arrived in October 2018, and to say that he has had an impact would be putting it mildly. An enormous character with a heart to match, he has provided endless entertainment, and his carefree attitude and resilience is an inspiration to us all.

Compassion over Couture

August 21, 2019 by Emma Billington

This week we welcomed Molly. A very small girl who is about 18 months old, has already been bred from, had 4 homes and was kept in a crate for 23 hours of the day for most of her short life. She is of course, like so many others, a victim of the breeding system and the ‘designer dog preference’ mentality that is epidemic in the UK.

The majority of puppy farmed dogs come from other countries, yet most people are never made aware of this. One such startling insight came from our partner Street Hearts BG who, while queuing for the Eurotunnel with a cargo of 20 precious lives saved from hell, noticed there were vans and vans of puppies coming over. They are brought here to be sold as though they are born and bred in the UK – to unsuspecting people for under the normal value and those who will exploit them for breeding and making money.

Pigs / Dogs – it’s in the eye of the beholder

The Swine Flu impact

This week we have some disappointing news…unfortunately the latest group of dogs due to come over to us from Bulgaria have been delayed due to an African Swine Fever outbreak in Eastern Europe.

Swine Flu is an issue because an outbreak prevents the transportation of any animals through affected areas. This is a measure put in place to try and slow or stop the spread of the disease African Swine Fever, which is highly contagious and causes pigs to become poorly very quickly, resulting in death within just one week of infection.

Catch us on Channel 5 this Sunday – and help us fund the next stage of our project!

July 15, 2019 by Emma Billington

We are very excited to announce that later this month we’ll be back on Channel 5 as we’ve been featured in their brand new series, My Houseful of Animals! The light-hearted TV show, which shares the stories of animal lovers and fellow rescuers alike, airs on the 21stJuly.

Although we had reservations about the initial project, this one came unexpectedly and is a welcome surprise. It more accurately reflects the nature of what we do at Dogs 4 Rescue and offers some lovely insights into what daily life here is like. Most importantly we’re thrilled as it gets the street dogs from abroad some much-needed exposure and enabled us to get across our positive message regarding rescue dogs, in particular those saved from abroad.

What it doesn’t show unfortunately is our fabulous dog park and the progress we’ve made in making it what it is today. We’d like to use this opportunity to ask for another push to help us to achieve our vision – and use the exposure from the Channel 5 feature to help us fund the next stage of our fantastic project!

Fostering Blog… By Nadia

April 29, 2019 by Emma Billington

I’ve always loved dogs, I’ve always been around them, and as a child I always just assumed that when I grew up I’d have a dog or two of my own. But the realities of adulthood, primarily the fact that I’m out at work for most of the day, have meant that the time has never been right for me to adopt a dog. I’ve considered options such as dog walkers and doggy day cares, which are abundant these days, but for one reason or another, this has never really felt the way to go for me personally – and besides, my partner had never been a dog person anyway, so he probably wouldn’t agree to it.

Nadia with Samira… Her first foster doggie
